Nashik City and the surrounding area is famous for many temples, pilgrimage places etc. One of the sacred places for Jain Religion is Teerthraj Gajpantha , which is at Mhasrul, 16 kms from Nashik Road Railway station and 5 kms from Nashik City. The famous CHAMBER CAVES are a part of this place. It is situated on the top of a small hill which is only 400 ft tall. The staircase, built in black stone leads to the temple and offers a panoramic view. Although the nearby landscape is quite barren, some plantation has been recently done. This is a very serene place, conducive for meditation. Gajapantha Teerth includes a caravanserai, a small hut the foot of the hill and a temple at the top of the Gajadhwaja Hillock. As per the ancient holy book "Shantinath Purana" Mysore’s Chamaraj King installed these statues (600 B.C.) in the temple top the hill. Thus the caves got the name "Chamer Caves" or "Chambhar Caves" in the regional language.

Trimbakeshwar temple is a religious center having one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. The extraordinary feature of the Jyotirlinga located here is its three faces embodying Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Rudra. Due to excessive use of water, the linga has started to erode. It is said that this erosion symbolizes the eroding nature of human society. The Lingas at Trimbakeshwar are covered by a jeweled crown which is placed over the Gold Mask of Tridev (Brahma Vishnu Mahesh). The crown is said to be from the age of Pandavs and consists of diamonds, emeralds, and many precious stones. The crown is displayed every Monday from 4-5 pm (Shiva).All other Jyotirlingas have Shiva as the main deity. The entire black stone temple is known for its appealing architecture and sculpture and is at the foothills of a mountain called Brahmagiri.Three sources of the godavari originate from the brahmagiri mountain. 500 years back from now there was built a city which later on became famous as Trimbakeshwar. In the period of the Peshwas regime Nana Saheb Peshwa had instructed to sonstruct the Trimbakeshwar temple and developed and beautified the city of Trimbakeshwar.

The area is under military and is restricted for civilians.

his temple, which celebrated its centenary seven years ago, belongs to Damodar Vishnu alias Damu Anna Dongare. Born in a family of scholars in Vedshashtra, Damu Anna was very knowledgeable in medicine and also in music - he himself was a tabla player. The property on which this temple stands today, belonged to Damu Anna and there was a lovely garden watered from the well in the backyard. Once during meditation he sensed a divine directive to build a Ganapati mandir. Same night, he caught a burglar trying to break open a jeweller’s shop across the street. The jeweller offered to give a prize of Damu Anna’s choice. Damu Anna asked him to donate a marble deity of Ganesh and the jeweller very happily complied with the request. Thereafter this temple was constructed where Damu Anna’s love for music is nurtured even today. Bhadrapad and Maghi festivals are celebrated as also every Chaturthi, concerts are held in the temple. As you turn from Mahatma Gandhi Road to Main Road near Ravivar fountain, you come across this temple on your left. Long and wide main hall, a pretty idol and old glass chandeliers impress you instantly. The Ganesh idol faces the east.

Gondeshvar or Govindeshvar temple of the numerous shrines in Sinnar, the ones sacred to Gondeshvar and Aieshvar are the most significant as also antique. To the north-east outside the town stands the splendid black-stone temple of Gondeshvar weathered by the wind and sun of centuries. It is still the largest, most complete and the best preserved example of mediaeval temples of the Deccan built on a variation of the Indo-Aryan style, which had penetrated into a part of the Deccan during the middle ages. It is a Shaiva Panchayatan, or a group of five temples, within a large enclosure, the central shrine being dedicated to Shiva, and the remaining four around it to Parvati, Ganapati, Surya and Vishnu.

This temple was built by Peshwas. There are great processions and utsav on Ramnavami, Dasara and Chaitra Padwa (Hindu new year day). The specialty of the temple is that it was built with black stones.The stones were brought from Ramshej 200 years ago. It took 23 lakhs of rupees and 2000 workers to build the temple in 12 years. The apex of the temple is made up of 32 tons of gold. In 1930, Dr. Ambedkar performed Satyagraha, to allow the entry of Harijans into the temple.

The Sita Gumpha is at a distance of 2 km from Central Bus Stand of Nashik. It is situated at the western side door of the famous Kalaram Temple. The wife of Lord Ram, Sita lived in this cave during the days of her exile. It is near the five Banyan trees i.e Panchavati. People believe that Sita was kidnapped by the demon Ravan from this place. One has to enter the Sita Gumpha from a door that is as narrow as a window. In the interior of the cave there is a Shivaling that was worshipped by Sita. Just opposite the Gumpha is a temple that depicts the scene of Shri Ram catching the golden deer.

A dip in this sacred kund is considered very religious. Situated nearby is Gandhi Lake (Talab) having a memorable monument made out of white marble, in memory of the Father of the Nation. Modakeshwar Temple in Nasik is an ancient temple of Lord Ganesh facing the east. This temple is located on the Asarachi Ves which is a road towards the cemetery from the Ramkund. The name 'Modakeshwar' is supposed to be derived from one of the popular Maharashtrian dishes, named as 'Modak'. Modaks are made from jaggery as well as coconut and thought to be the much loved dish of Lord Ganesh. This temple is very famous in the Nasik city and the presiding deity is said to be self emerged, known as 'Swaymbhu'. 

An idol of Lord Ganesh in the Modakeshwar temple also has an original shape of a Modak, so the name Modakeshwar. The owner of this temple is Vilas Kshemkalyani. Keshavrao Kshemkelyani, ancestor of Vilas, once in his dream, saw Lord Ganesh at this place and after coming there, he truly found the idol of Swayambhu Ganapati. Since then, the Kshemkelyani family is looking after this temple. All the Nasikites have immense faith in the divinity of Ganpati as it is also believed that Lord Ganesha answers the prayers of his devotees.

Sundarnarayan temple is situated at the corner of Ahillyabai Holkar Bridge. The story goes like this : Vrinda Devi was a very pious and faithful wife of Jalandar - a wicked demon. Jalandar, a mighty crook, was the devotee of Lord Shiva. Pleased with his prayers and impressed by Jalandar's wife's chastity, Lord Shiva gave him a boon that made him immortal. With this boon, Jalandar became vicious and started creating havoc on earth. He not only troubled human beings, but also disturbed the Gods. He even ventured to pick up a quarrel with Lord Shiva himself. It became necessary to eliminate him which was contrary to the boon given by Lord Shiva. The only way out was to suspect Vrinda Devi's chastity. For this task Lord Vishnu duplicated himself to look like Jalandar and lived with Vrinda Devi. Thus her chastity was suspected and the boon given to Jalandar was withdrawn and he was destroyed. When Vrinda Devi came to know of the trick played by Lord Vishnu, she got furious and cursed Lord Vishnu. His attractive body turned black due to the curse. Lord Vishnu took a holy bath in the river Godavari and regained his complexion. Since he became beautiful again, - the Lord is named as Sundarnarayana. Sundar in Marathi means beautiful.

Situated in Panchavati area, on the bank of river Godavari - fondly called as anga by Nasikites - isNaroshankar Temple of Rameshwar built by Naroshankar Rajebahaddur in 1747. The architectural style of the temple is called "Maya" style. It is one of the most beautiful pieces of temple architecture of the 18th century. The main temple is on a platform. Rather than inside of the temple, sculpture on the outer part is stunning. It has rows of striking designs. One layer is of decorative lacework. The next one is that of peacocks holding bead garlends. In four directions are statues of the saints in Padmasana - one holding rosary, the other one a holy book - they are all scholars. Some of the statues are deformed - their hands are broken. There is also an assembly of animals - tigers, monkeys,elephants etc. This depicts that Hindu culture is not limited only to human beings but also has relation with birds, animals, trees, and nature in general.

Tapovan literally means precincts reserved for meditation and penance. There is such a precinct for penance ahead of Panchavati and hence was named Tapovan. There are temples of Gopalkrishna and Lakshmi-Narayan and the famous Goshala (cow-shed) was built here in 1904. In ancient time, this land was made sacred by the touch of Lord Rama’s feet.
